Balcones Modern Addition

Designed as a home for comfortable, indoor-outdoor living with an arrangement to isolate the primary suite to rent the remaining 3/2 house part time when traveling, Moontower executed a modern moody retreat for an Austin music scene night owl in the hills above Balcones road. The heavily sloping site made widening the house challenging while offering some unique opportunities for views. The footprint of the house was expanded past the boundary of a retaining wall created to tame the sloping site, resulting in a cantilevered primary suite with gravity defying views of the tree tops.  The primary suite and porch addition are the major improvements but the comprehensive remodel of the living spaces of the home, including the kitchen and two skylights to brighten the low ceilinged spaces, transformed an uninspiring ranch home into a modern retreat.  This project was a design collaboration with Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects.
